the unforgettable blunder

you may think being a dive professional is prestigious. it certainly takes time and experience and a fair share of blunders before i got to what i am today. i wanna share the most unforgettable mistake, so that u can laugh at me (i’m afterall human, so i do make mistakes) or u can learn from mine.

this happened last year where i just started out as an instructor. as usual, our dive center practice would be to use a buoy as a tool for teaching. this is to assist the instructor to help the students in the area of CESA and descend skills etc.

everything was good and going well. as the boat moved off the dive site, i took the buoy and wanted to arrange it nicely for the next dive. i tried what i observed from the rest of my seniors would have done – throw the rope into the water and let the moving boat assist in sorting out the entanglement of the rope.

however, i threw the buoy into the water instead of the other end of the rope into the water. (Sebastian could be my witness)I remember vividly that i had to hold onto the rope very tightly if not i would have dropped the whole buoy into the water.

the scene was funny: u see me holding on to the rope, my friend jj behind me, and sebastian there after. three of us pulling our assess off before the buoy was retrieved back onto the boat. other customers were there too.. i couldn’t help but feel very embarrased!

from then on: i realized that i better think before i act. i thought i was doing the right thing.. in the end, the form was there but the action drastically different. this is one incident that i think i will never forget.

anyone else care to share their unforgettable blunder?

I wanted to wear my BCD in the water cos of a back injury so I threw the BCD into the water first. But it wasn’t inflated! So it went down…… down…………. down.
